Trust launches Strategic Plan 2025-2028 at Annual General Meeting

The Gibraltar Heritage Trust (GHT) presented its Strategic Plan 2025-2028 at the Trust’s Annual General Meeting last night. This ambitious plan, designed to safeguard, celebrate, and share Gibraltar’s rich cultural and historical legacy, sets a bold course for the next three years.

The Strategic Plan envisions a Gibraltar where heritage is deeply valued and integrated into all aspects of life. It outlines a vision for collaboration across government, communities, and institutions to ensure Gibraltar’s heritage drives environmental, cultural, economic, and social progress.

“Heritage is not just about the past—it’s a cornerstone of our identity and a foundation for our future,” said Chairman Ian Balestrino. “This plan reflects our commitment to ensuring Gibraltar’s unique legacy is preserved and celebrated by all, for all.”

“The GHT has come a long way since it was established in 1989” said CEO Claire Montado “we have developed the plan after a long period of reflection and self-analysis and are excited to embark on the journey of its delivery”.

The Strategic Plan focuses on 5 main objective which are:

  • Educational Outreach: Building on the growing demand and appetite for heritage material, the GHT aims to grow its staff to deliver a bespoke heritage programs for schools and the public, fostering a deep appreciation for Gibraltar’s historical assets.
  • Heritage Preservation: Renewed focus on the conservation and sustainable use of Gibraltar’s physical heritage, working in partnership with government bodies, private developers, and NGOs.
  • Community Collaboration: Establishment of a Community Heritage Forum to unite stakeholders—from residents, to tourists and local businesses—in the promotion and protection of Gibraltar’s heritage.
  • Organisational Agility: Ensuring the Trust remains adaptable, innovative, and resilient in the face of future challenges.
  • Sustainability and Funding: Expanding funding sources and partnerships to secure the Trust’s mission for generations to come.

The Gibraltar Heritage Trust emphasised the importance of stakeholder engagement and collaboration in achieving these objectives. Members of the public are encouraged to join the Trust and support its work.
