Winners of the 2020 Annual Art Competition
31ST ANNUAL PAINTING/DRAWING COMPETITION – MAY 2020
ART IN LOCKDOWN – A VIEW FROM MY WINDOW
The Gibraltar Heritage Trust held its 31st Art Competition in May and is pleased to announce this years winners.
Due to the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions in force at the time, the competition ran with a few changes to the rules that meant that rather than painting a set historic site or building, participants were invited to paint the view from their window, requiring them to send in, before and after photos of their artwork which had to be completed within a 24-hour period of the competition. The competition was also offered as an activity on the school’s Home Learning Platforms.
As a result a record breaking amount of entries were received with the judges commenting on the high quality of art produced. This year the traditional Junior and Children’s categories were adjusted to align with the new school years and an additional category for age 6 and under was introduced, so in total there were 4 categories, Infants (aged 6 & under), Children (aged between 7 & 10), Juniors (aged 11-17) and Adults (18 & over). Judging took place anonymously as per usual.
Unfortunately this year due to Covid-19 restrictions on gatherings there will be no formal prize giving or exhibition, although a gallery of entries can be seen.
