Gibraltar Heritage Trust launches 2027 Calendar celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the 1967 Referendum
The Gibraltar Heritage Trust is pleased to announce the arrival of its 2027 Heritage Calendar, now available for sale.
This year’s calendar marks the 60th anniversary of the historic 1967 Gibraltar Referendum, drawing on a remarkable collection of colour photographs taken by the late Arthur (Arturo) Harper LRPS on Referendum Day.
At a time when colour photography was considerably more expensive and less commonly used by amateur photographers, Arturo recognised the significance of what was unfolding around him. Camera in hand, he travelled across Gibraltar recording streets, estates, patios and passageways transformed by flags, bunting, murals and messages. His photographs capture not only the extraordinary sea of red, white and blue, but the people and atmosphere of a day that became a defining moment in Gibraltar’s modern history.
With the generous permission of Arturo’s family, the Trust has been able to bring these photographs together for the 2027 calendar, allowing a new generation to see Gibraltar as it looked during those remarkable days in the lead up to 10th September 1967.
The Trust’s annual calendar, now in its 35th year, has been a popular way for our community to explore Gibraltar’s heritage through images and stories. This years theme is particularly important in the context of wider landmark events in Gibraltar’s history.
The Trust also extends its thanks to Myra Azzopardi and the Harper family, Leslie Linares, Chairman of the Gibraltar Photographic Society, the Gibraltar Chronicle, and Johnny Bugeja, whose collaboration and assistance helped make the calendar possible.
The Gibraltar Heritage Trust 2027 Calendar is available from the Trust at The Main Guard, 13 John Mackintosh Square and from the Trusts webiste www.gibraltarheritagetrust.org.gi. All profits from calendar sales go directly back into the Gibraltar Heritage Trust, helping to fund its ongoing work to protect, promote and bring Gibraltar’s heritage to life.
The calendar makes an ideal Christmas gift, particularly for anyone with a connection to Gibraltar, while every purchase provides a practical way of supporting the Trust and its work.
