Heritage Week 2025

The Ministries for Tourism and Heritage have announced a Heritage Festival Week which is being led by Gibraltar Cultural Services in collaboration with the Trust. This week will be kicked off by the commemorations for Victory in Europe Day and will run from Thursday 8th May to Sunday 11th May. The programme promises a rich and engaging celebration of Gibraltar’s history and cultural heritage.

A commemorative ceremony will be held at the Moorish Castle to mark the 80th Anniversary of VE Day. Other activities during the weekend will include Street Art Tours for schools, Walking Tours organised by the Trust which will take place throughout the weekend as well as our Annual 36th Heritage Painting Competition, with the theme of ‘Witham’s Cemetery’ which will take place on Saturday 10th May. Tours will be open to the public and tickets will be made available to purchase on buytickets.gi. More details of the programme and additional activities will be published soon so keep an eye out for more information. 

Friday 9th May will see a variety of activities at John Mackintosh Square, including storytelling sessions and a series of performances, as well as a Guard of Honour that will also be reenacted by the Victorian Re-enactment Association, the Gibraltar Re-enactment Society, and the Gibraltar Bands & Drums Association. This will be followed by a Ceremony of the Keys at Casemates Square.
