GHT and GONHS Statement on Rosia Bay

The Gibraltar Heritage Trust and Gibraltar Ornithological & Natural History Society have noted with interest the recent exchanges between the prospective Rosia Bay Developers and the Petitioners against the project.  Both organisations would like to clarify that although they broadly welcomed the initial outline scheme in 2014, the recent revisions and additions have given significant cause for concern and led to a review of positions regarding elements of the scheme.

Many of the issues identified at the DPC meeting of the 27th January are still being studied through the Environmental Impact Assessment, the results of which are yet to be finalised. Both GONHS and the GHT are keen to find a long term, sensitive and sustainable solution for Rosia Bay that protects its significant natural and historical heritage whilst also giving it a new lease of life and community use.  They would however have strong reservations about any scheme that compromises the site’s ecological and historical value.
